Little Red Booties

Well, I never thought I would be one of those people to "dress my dog up"...we started to feel bad this winter that our little Mikko doesn't have a lot of fur to keep her warm in these cold Minnesota winters...so out of necessity and catering slightly to her princess qualities, we decided to buy her a jacket in December...little red riding hood. She isn't very cooperative at putting it on, but it seems to keep her warm as we try to keep her walking schedule in tact this winter.

Unfortunately, it doesn't end there. We noticed on our walks in our neighborhood that she would wince when we crossed the streets (from the salt, etc on the streets) and her paws would be frozen on our walks when the temperatures approached 0 - for those of you who aren't from Minnesota - this is more often than any of us would like to admit...so we broke down and bought her some little red boots to match...the package did state that the dog may "prance" - however we were not prepared for the prancing that would follow - I am glad I had the video camera out to capture Mikko as well as our reactions - I am not sure which is funnier!

We are very fortunate to have Jeremy's parents in town so while they are spoiling Madeline - we can spoil Mikko (and ourselves) with some quick snowshoe adventures in between feedings! We have ventured out to Long Lake park in New Brighton the last two weekends...last weekend we just went on some trails through the woods, this weekend there was a snowshoe race at the park, so we were able to follow the 5k and 10k loops so we had an idea of how far we were going as well as being able to explore some new territory - I usually wouldn't complain about getting more snow, but the race trails were really fun! Hopefully we can follow them after this huge storm! The trails went through the woods and ended with a trek across one of the lakes. It was a great day for a snowshoe adventure! Mikko was so exhausted when we got back to Jeremy's parents house that I was sure she was going to pass out sitting up in the kitchen!!
