Boom! Goes the Fireworks

Most 4th of July's we have our plans set in stone weeks in advance. This 4th we had nothing planned. This is nice considering our schedule for the rest of the summer. However, last week we were able to fill up our weekend with all sorts of great activities.

We started off our weekend Thursday evening at Canterbury Park. We did not realize that post time was 4:30. Even with our late arrival (7:15), we were able to catch and bet on a few races.

We bet on the leading horse in the picture above. It was a real steep bet of 2 dollars to win. He won; there was a jockey dispute to the start. A dispute that was sustained. The good news is that we placed the same bet on the horse that placed 2nd and the odds were a little worse meaning we had a better payout due to this dispute.

After the race their were fireworks, which we caught from the patio of a bar near the track. This bar (Arizonas) provided quality people watching. Not one person on that bar was sober or a non-smoker.

On Friday, we were invited to our friends' parents' boat on the St. Croix. This was an early start (10:30). We spent a majority of the day hanging out on a private beach playing kubb. There was even some lounge time.

We also had time to play with Paul and Abby's son, Alex.

After the day on the beach we caught a spectacular fireworks display.

Saturday, we spent the day at the rents house with Chase, who we volunteered to take care of while our friends were in Iowa.

We spent hours throwing the tennis ball and Frisbee, yet he would not tire out. Finally, we did so we ended up ignoring Chase and took some R and R in our hammock.

After relaxing we found some time to drink some wine on the deck and be entertained by our niece, Elisa.
After chill out time, Jeremy and his dad cooked a delicious meal of teriyaki chicken and Mango pork kabobs on the Grill. Dinner was followed by a bonfire.

Chase did not want anything to do with the fire, so he chilled out on the dock.

Soon the neighbors started lighting of fireworks and Chase wanted nothing to do with being outside. So he hung out in the laundry room.

On Sunday, we went out to breakfast and played golf with Jeremy's parents. Since it was blistering hot and humid, after golf we went to the pool for a swim.

The coming weekend is approaching fast and we have another action-packed weekend planned!
