Madeline...Island.

Well, as summer comes to a close I am reflecting on how much fun we have had this summer...nightly walks/runs, events, mini-vacations, you name it. Which means we have a lot of pictures (and laundry) and I have been lacking blogging time. I know, I know...broken record :).

It was our 5 year anniversary of going to Madeline Island. We were able to move the trip back into July which helps to keep lake superior warm!

We were lucky enough to have my parents join us for the trip.

The itinerary was similar...leaving Friday to camp out at Buffalo Bill's campground. It is one of those places where you call and make a reservation, never knowing until you get there if they actually wrote down the right name or date. Well, this year they put us in the wrong site. it was nice by the water, but was right across from the check in trailer and was noisy, noisy with the car traffic (and some drunk college kids)...lacked some of the camping experience, but with a campfire and good company we couldn't complain. Madeline did fabulous with her first night in the tent!

The next morning we headed on the ferry over to the island. First stop? Bloody Mary's at the beachside restaurant. Papa had fun making funny faces with Madeline and dipping her piggies in lake superior...

Then off to Ben's Cabin. We usually stay at Big Bay State park...but a couple of weeks before our trip I had some second thoughts about bringing a 6 month old camping...so we were able to find a last minute cabin - that exceeded all of our expectations! So we quickly cancelled our camping reservations and set up our tent in Ben's yard. after the first night of getting destroyed by misquitos, Jeremy and I quickly decided it was the cabin life for us too! With all of the amenities (and a bonus hot tub - that we of course called hot tub time machine) we were definitely spoiled! But we were still able to have our campfires (and our beds :).

We were able to spend time at both beaches - the state park and town park:

but the weather was a little questionable on Sunday forcing us to spend the afternoon taking down some cocktails at Tom's burned down cafe...not a place you want to be with a storm rolling in, but that is exactly what happened!

We made a quick trip to Amnicon Falls park on the way home. Great place for pictures!
