Lucky for us, even after all of the weekend fun - we still had a full week of play time in Denver before the long drive home!
We were so excited to head up to Evergreen to go ice skating on the lake. Well, the joke was on us, we probably should have guessed with all of the nice weather, but the lake was closed for the season! We decided to take advantage of the 45 minute drive into the mountains and get the Bob out for a walk around the lake. It was a little overcast, but still a beautiful day. Madeline also learned to drive on the way to Evergreen - she is growing up so fast :).
We decided Tuesday would be our family ski day. We all headed up to Keystone for the day. We had some fresh snow which made the powder hound happy.
We were lucky to have Nana to watch Ms. Madeline while Jeremy and I ripped up the slopes.
Dad, John and Fischer spent most of the day on the bunny hill teaching Fischer to ski. We put him on skis last year when he was just over 2 -- this year was much more successful and Fischer loved it! (unfortuantely, papa has all of the pics - I will have so steal some!).
It was so fun to show Madeline the mountains...even though she won't remember a thing, I know we will have many more memorable trips to the mountains as Jeremy and I love the hills!
And the best part -- capping of the day with a beer at the Damn Brewery.
We felt slightly guilty for leaving Mikko in the kennel, so we decided to use Wednesday as a hiking day in boulder. A typical spring day in boulder. We started off the hike in sunshine...
And ended it in a snowstorm:
While we were out, Fischer and Nana made me a birthday cake. My birthday usually landed pretty close to easter (similar to this year), so my mother made me several bunny cakes when I was young...I was so excited to see another birthday cake into my 30s...even though Madeline's birthday is close to Christmas, I will have to find some reasons for some bunny cakes for her too :).
Thursday was a day to rest the legs...we headed out to watch some KU basketball, and Nana and I took Fischer shoe shopping (shoe shopping for a 3 year old is quite an experience!). We were still able to sneak in a short run and a trip to the puppy park. Not the same as the beautiful wooded parks around here, but anytime you can see the mountains in the background, its a good park.
We had one more hike in us on Friday. We headed up to Mt. Sanitas in Boulder. We have done it several times before, and although it is a challenging hike, it is one of our favorites and the views are spectacular. And the weather again was amazing (I love Denver!).
Its funny what sticks out from our trip and even with all of the fun adventures, I smile thinking about the time we spent just relaxing on the back porch, enjoying the sunshine and a couple of Coors Lights.
Most importantly, we spent some quality snuggle time with Nana and Papa and we miss them terribly! We will start counting down the days until we see you again.
