Madeline, Madeline....

The third annual trip to Madeline was missing our favorite Madeline friends the Cannon's who were anxiously awaiting the arrival of their little girl -- so we brought the next best thing -- my dad :)!! We took our time getting up to Bayfield on Friday with a nice break to stretch our legs with a hike at Jay Cook State Park just south of Duluth.

John got attacked by some weird bug!

We then proceeded to Bayfield, WI where we spent our time around the campfire setting sail.

On Saturday, we caught the ferry over to Madeline Island. When we go there, we had a relaxing day which included drinking bloody mary's, playing Kubb, and playing some football in Lake Superior.

After logging some beach time, we headed into town to get a round of mini-golf in. Of course the loser, Kate, had to buy the first round of drinks at Tom's Burned Down Cafe.

Sunday, we squeezed in a bike ride, which lead us to the Town Park beach and a turtle crossing. After biking we headed back to the beach and then on a hike to some sea (lake) cliffs.

We had scheduled a Kayaking trip on Friday at Living Adventures in Bayfield -- did all of the instruction and safety training only to be stuck on shore due to Lake Superior looking like the ocean with white capped waves. Well, it is definitely one of those situations where it all works out for the best... we decided to go on Monday morning -- likely the most beautiful day ever with low winds and LOTS of sun! We kayaked to some rock formations and sea caves and due to the beautiful weather delayed our departure back to St.Paul. Dad brought along a waterproof camera and we took lots of pictures of the kayaking adventure... we will post some when we get them in our hands :)
