We left off finalizing our preparations for our weekend in Duluth running Grandma's 1/2 marathon...
We headed up on Friday afternoon, grabbed our numbers and checked into the dorms at University of Minnesota Duluth, always brings back memories of the good old college days!
We met up with Jeff and Sarah (our roommates) and some more Madison friends Tim and Marie to have our final meal to propel us through the race. Then off to bed to get some good sleep...

...for all of about 5 hours as we had to be up in the 4 o'clock hour to grab the bus and head to the start line. And off we went! The run was great, weather was awesome, and the training paid off. Catherine ran her first race and after some early morning butterfies, we settled into our pace and talked the entire time, which made 13 miles fly by.

I sometimes forget how fun that first race was and it was fun to share that experience. Jeremy heard the starting bell and was off to the races. He had a time goal (which I have never had :) of 1:40 and beat it by 2 minutes! Although Sarah wasn't able to participate, she was our #1 fan and was somebody we could look forward to seeing at the 11 mile mark! She also got texts of all of our progress, so it was fun crossing the time mats knowing we were keeping her updated.

Everyone finished without any significant drama and after a quick nap, we embarked on the real fun of Grandma's -- partying up in Duluth! We did a lot of eating and bar hopping and ended up at the tents at night. Jeremy and I took a walk down by the boardwalk to stretch the legs, and played some skee ball to decide who was going to pay the bar tab for the night (of course Jeremy had to pay -- was there every any question??)

We were hoping to sneak in some north shore hiking on sunday, but the on and off showers didn't give us much confidence to go too far from the car...we know we will be up again soon!
